HOW TO WRITE A SCREENPLAY 10 EASY STEPS
.) Conceptual Idea.
.) Theme or message for the story.
.) Create the Logline which sums up the premise.
.) Character Biography and backstory. Who are the key players?Write backgrounds for each.
.) Start a corkboard. There are many programs out there but try free ones first to see what suits you. Example you can try Amazon Studios Storybuilder for your corkboard to do research and create the Outline-Beatsheet-and Post pictures and notes for research. Then later use Storywriter to write your script.
.) Write a Beatsheet with the major plot points that are pivotal moments for the script.
.) Next Outline - that is your scene list and brainstorm what would get you from one pivotal moment to the next so basically the this happened BUT then this occurred as a result because it changed something therefore the next problem was this and then...type out your OUTLINE.
.) Then go back and write a TREATMENT which is your prose exposition for each and every scene stream of conscious writing with vivid detail what you see and what is heard and ONLY in the treatment prose can you expand on the details of thought and motivations of character.
.) Write a Scriptment--this is a short description of the Treatment/Outline you have created and then write brief first draft description.ONLY what you SEE and HEAR -NO prose about feeling thoughts that is for novels.Stick with screenplay format. Write ideas for Dialogue.
.) Write a First/Second Draft then Polish off Dialogue. Button it by getting straight to the heart of the matter.Edit any Miscellaneous words dialogue. Then EDIT....EDIT...and after checking for grammar mistakes ....ASK somebody else to help! Then VOILA--YOUR SCRIPT!
